Two Days On-Line Programme on “Professional Skills Development” for Librarians Developing Professional Skills of Librarians: The twenty-first century competencies and skills are basic requirements for all of us including Librarians in the present rapidly changing world. The National Education Policy 2020 invigorates upon the value of books and libraries by emphasising several issues, like the development of informative and motivational books in Indian languages, the accessibility of books in public and educational institutions, maintaining libraries, and promoting reading as a national practice. It is, therefore, significant to mention that the NEP 2020 emphasizes Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for Librarian and Library Professionals with an aim to provide them adequate opportunities for self-improvement. “Steps will be taken to enhance online accessibility of library books and further broad basing of digital libraries. For ensuring vibrant libraries in communities and educational institutions, it will be imperative to make available adequate library staff and also devise appropriate career pathways and CPD for them. Other steps will include strengthening all existing libraries, setting up rural libraries and reading rooms in disadvantaged regions, making widely available reading material in Indian languages, opening children’s libraries and mobile libraries, establishing social book clubs across India and across subjects, and fostering greater collaborations between education institutions and libraries”. (National Education Policy 2020, p. 52). Programme Description: This is a programme for librarians and library professionals who want to enhance their professional skills. The programme provides necessary knowledge and skills to librarians as envisaged in NEP 2020. The programme provides the librarians to stay up-to-date and develop themselves professionally. After successful completion of the training librarians will be able to develop their library and its services as envisaged in NEP 2020. After successful completion of the programme participants will be given “Certificate of Participation”. The objective of the programme is to enhance their knowledge and skills in the area of- • Overview of NEP 2020 and role of school libraries and librarians in fulfilling the mission • Strengthening collection development policy to bridge the digital divide • Action Research to inculcate reading habit among students • Information Literacy and role of school libraries for holistic development
